1967 October
Reclamation and construction begin.

1968 October
The GULF HOTEL opens its doors to the public.

1977 September
Tower Block construction begins.

1980
Mr. Mohamed Jassim Buzizi becomes the first Bahraini to be appointed as General Manager.
The new wing, Tower Block, opens with 240 rooms.

1981
Awal Ballroom opens.

1983
Furusato Japanese restaurant opens. Later re-named SATO when taken over by the hotel.
1984
SHERLOCK HOLMES English Pub opens.

1985 August
The Health Club and LA PERGOLA Italian Restaurant open, followed by the newly refurbished AL WAHA Café Restaurant.

1988
Launching of Bahrain’s premiere poolside extravaganza – GULF NIGHT OUT.

1990
Mr. Mohamed Buzizi becomes General Manager of Bahrain Hotels Company.
Mr. Aqeel Raees takes over as General Manager of Gulf Hotel.
ZAHLE Lebanese Restaurant opens.

1992
Mr. Mohamed Buzizi becomes the Chief Executive of Bahrain Hotels Company.
Business Centre, with its two meeting rooms, opens.

1994
Completion of the refurbishment of Tower Block rooms, opening of two Executive Floors and a lounge.
Stars Bar, roof top nook offering a panoramic view of the Manama skyline opens.

1996
China Garden Restaurant opens.

1997 May
The grandest exhibition and convention facility in Bahrain, the Gulf International Convention and Exhibition Centre opens.

1999
The GULF HOTEL celebrates its 30th anniversary.

2001
Stars Bar converted into FUSIONS Restaurant, a new concept in cuisine, where East meets West.

2002
The new tropically landscaped poolside opens with waterfalls, whirlpool, lagoon style pool and kids’ play pool.
Royal Thai Restaurant opens.

2003
Refurbishment of the South Wing rooms.

2004
Takht Jamsheed Iranian Restaurant opens.

2006
The opening of the Gulf Executive Residence March 2006
The re-opening and new location of the Sherlock Holmes Bar and Restaurant. October 2006
The complete refurbishment of the Japanese restaurant Sato October 2006

2007
The first phase of the renovation car park area February 2007
